About Snake
Snake is the classic that's been on every phone, calculator, and browser since forever. You steer a snake around a grid, eat food to grow longer, and try not to crash into yourself or the walls. The longer you get, the less room you have to turn — that's the whole trap.
It's one of those games where the rules take five seconds to learn and forever to get good at. Every run ends the same way: you get greedy, cut a corner too tight, and run into your own tail.
Why It Still Holds Up
Snake works because it's pure positioning. There's no story, no power-ups, no gimmicks — just you, a growing snake, and a shrinking amount of space. Every piece of food makes you stronger (longer) and also brings you closer to dying. That tension is the entire game.
The arena version piles more pressure on by giving you less safe space to work with, so your path-planning has to be tighter than the old phone version you remember.
How to Play
Eat the food that appears on the grid to grow longer. Each piece adds to your length. You die if you hit a wall or run into your own body. The longer you survive and grow, the higher your score.
Controls
- Arrow keys: Steer the snake up, down, left, right
- WASD: Alternative steering — same directions
Tips and Tricks
- Stay near the edges early. When you're short, hug the walls and spiral inward as you grow. It keeps your tail behind you instead of boxed in.
- Plan your next two turns, not just one. By the time you're long, reacting in the moment is too late — you'll cut yourself off.
- Don't chase food across the middle. A juicy piece in the center isn't worth threading back through your own body to reach it. Take the safe pick.
- Slow down your inputs. Snake punishes panic. Smooth, deliberate turns beat frantic ones every time.
FAQ
Does the snake get faster as it grows?
In most versions, yes — your speed and length both climb, which is why late-game gets so tense.
Is there a max length?
No hard cap. You keep growing until you crash. The "win" is just beating your own record.
Can I play it on mobile?
Yes, it runs in the browser on touch devices too, with on-screen or swipe controls depending on the build.
